It’s 2016 and still, people in India discriminate between girls and boys in our society. It is a sad truth for daughters of India and it breaks my heart to see girl child going through all this. Although things are changing, there is a need for a bigger change. Especially in the rural areas where a girl child is not allowed to even go to school.

It gives rise to various questions-

Why should they not go to school?

Is education not as important for them as much it is for boys?

Why do you think they are any lesser than boys?

Why are girls in India still missing out on education?

There are different answers to these questions according to me-

  • Due to our existing social culture.
  • Because too many of us still hold the notions that women are lower than men.
  • Due to our government that will not do enough for the education of our girl child.
  •  Due to the difficulties we force our girls to face even to join in school
  • Because of the thinking of fathers of our girls that girls should not receive education as it might give them wrong ‘ideas’ like ‘they are equal to boys.’
  • And now I think instead of blindly accepting these reasons, let’s think about – how we can ensure that our girls get their rights to a better life than they presently have.

NANHI KALI INITIATIVE

I saw an ad of “Nanhi Kali” on TV a few days back and wanted to write about daughters of India. Tomorrow is daughter’s day and what can be a better occasion than daughter’s day to write about it. Many girls want to be boys, and you know why? See this video to know the reason-

I went to their website to know more about it. Project Nanhi Kali was initiated in 1996 by the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) with the aim of providing primary education to underprivileged girl children in India. They are working with 190 NGO’S and providing support since 2005. Nestle India is also supporting this cause.

My first step towards this initiative is this blog and will try to help them as much as I can through my writings and be spreading a word through other channels.

Read more about Nanhi Kali and support our daughters as your support matters a lot for them.
