As most of you know by now that for this month, every Thursday I am writing about a Mom’s life and issues. I wanted to write an inspiring story this week and came across a great story of grit and confidence.

Meet Deepa Malik– Sharing with you all story of a 45-year-old who is an inspiration for all of us.

A few days back we all heard about Deepa Malik winning a silver medal in Paralympics. Yesterday, someone forwarded a video on Facebook about her life and I was inspired by this strong mom. I wanted to know more about her life and did some research myself. She is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympics. She won a Silver medal at the Paralympics 2016 for Shot put.

Deepa was diagnosed with a spinal tumour in 1999 and has undergone multiple surgeries after that. Doctors told her that she won’t be able to walk again. She underwent three surgeries and 183 stitches and was paralysed from the waist down.

She is married to an Army officer who was fighting in Kargil war when she was diagnosed with tumour. It was a tough time for her family but she came out as a winner by defeating her tumours.

These disabilities didn’t stop her and she went on to become an award-winning athlete. She is an athlete, swimmer, biker, and also an entrepreneur. Also has four limca world records registered in her name too. She didn’t let anything come in her way and achieved her dreams.

There are many other people with disabilities who are an inspiration to all of us. We take things for granted, feel sad for small things, fret without a reason and feel guilty about small things.

Deepa’s story shares with us many wonderful lessons about life. So, this one is not only for all the moms but also for women who are doing a great job. I want all of you to say this every day or when you feel low-

We are an inspiration and we are a hero,

We can do anything only if we decide.

Don’t feel sad and don’t forget your motto,

As life can be difficult and challenging at times.

Never look for pity or sympathy and just go with the flow,

We will get up after falling and achieve bigger heights.

You may see us struggling and fighting,

But you won’t see us fall…

As we are a daughter, a sister, a mother and above all a strong person.
