I attended an interesting event by MPOC (Malaysian palm oil council) recently and got good insights into how palm oil is not different from other oils. The event was organised by MPOC at Vivanta by Taj Bangalore.

It is true that the source of the advice plays a very important role. That is why MPOC arranged this meet to spread awareness and I am sharing with you all the insights and information gained from this event.

Ms. Bhawna shah who is country representative of Malaysia and Srilanka for MPOC and Dr. Meena Mehta, a renowned nutritionist from Mumbai were the speakers. And along with them, there were many bloggers and food experts who attended this event too.

Bhawna told us many different facts which normally people are not aware of about palm oil. According to her, a lot of research is going on about Palm oil by NIN and India is the largest importer of palm oil. In fact, it is the highest consumed oil in the world. It is also used in many processed foods as it is odourless and has a long shelf life.

Sometimes we have an attachment with a particular type of oil and we don’t want to change that. For example, mustard oil. Mustard oil, in some cultures, was used by our parents and now we are also using it.

Sometimes, we just follow what others are advocating us without understanding the facts. Actually, advice is one thing that’s available in abundance. But how do we know what’s the correct advice?

Health benefits and Nutritional facts

Later on, DR. Meena Mehta also told us about health benefits and nutritional facts of palm oil. According to her, people only blame oil for all the health related problems but only oil cannot do anything until and unless you are consuming it in really high quantities. It is all about your lifestyle and eating habits.

Towards the end, a video was shown on cultivation and production of Palm oil in Malaysia. According to the video, Malaysia is the biggest producer of Palm oil which has not only many health benefits but also is providing livelihood to many in that country.

The bloggers meet ended with some great food by Vivanta by Taj, some discussions, some questions and it was a great Sunday morning.
