Day 4 Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

One of the most famous tourist spots in Kumarakom is the bird sanctuary where tourists especially come to see a variety of birds. Best time to visit is either in June-August or in winter months when a lot of migratory birds fly to this place from other places. The best time of the day to visit the sanctuary is in the morning from 6.30am-8am as told to us by our resort staff.

We did not spot too many birds but there was too much excitement to spot any bird on our way. My daughter spotted this one near a small water pond. We later found out it’s name- ‘Indian pond heron’.

Spotted this beauty just sitting down on the pathway ready to be clicked. It is called ‘Chemboth’, a common bird of Kerala.

My daughters were excited to spot this one and debate is still on if it’s a turkey or some other similar looking bird.

Day 4 at 2 pm back to Cochin

We started in the afternoon for Cochin from Kumarakom which took us 2-3 hours. Did some shopping in Cochin as it was our last day and wanted to get some local stuff. Bought some spices as Kerala is famous for spices and some souvenirs for family and friends.

Cochin also has backwaters and a beach with a beautiful sunset. Some famous places to see are fort Kochi port, a museum of Kerala history, Marine drive etc.
