I am starting this challenge with a city which is popular for many things and its charm is different from any other city in the world. The biggest reason for this charm is the iconic Golden temple. A famous gurudwara which always leaves me mesmerised for its aura and beauty.

My memories of Amritsar – The city of the Golden temple –

Amritsar- The city of the Golden Temple

My first memory of visiting Amritsar is with my parents when I was just 5 or 6 years old. We went to Amritsar to visit the Golden temple specifically to offer our prayers at the famous temple. I still remember the story my mom told me about how the Golden temple got its name. She told me that it got its name from the pond or sarovar (Amrit sarovar) which is situated near the temple.

My latest trip was on Diwali and we especially went there to see the beauty of the Golden temple on Diwali. I heard from a lot of people that how beautiful Golden temple looks on this day as it is decorated with lights, especially for Diwali.

Its been almost 8 years since I went to this divine city and I can’t wait to go back especially for all the yummy food we get there. Top on my list is the guru ka langar which you get in the Golden temple. It is the yummiest meal I ever head and the kada prasad (atte ka halwa or wheat flour halwa) is out of the world too. Other than this, The famous Amritsari kulchas, lassi, tandoori chicken, kulfi, and lassi from famous Ahuja ki lassi corner, etc.

About the city –

Amritsar is one of the largest cities of Punjab and gets the maximum visitors all around the year. If you are someone who likes photography, history or you are a foodie, this is one place to go. Recently they started this hop on hop off bus service which allows you to explore the city at your own pace. This bus service is available after every one hour.

Golden temple is one of the most popular and sacred Sikh shrines. Every year a lot of tourists from all over the world visit it to offer their prayers and to see other popular places in Amritsar. The other famous places in Amritsar are – Jallianwala Bagh which is a proof and a reminder of the tragic event that took place many years ago.

Also, India Pakistan Wagah border is a must visit especially during flag lowering ceremony at sunset. A lot of people visit Amritsar to see this ceremony. If you are planning to visit Amritsar, you must try the yummy and irresistible delicacies of this place.

So, visit Amritsar, the city of the golden temple to feel divine, to get the feel of our Indian history, and to taste authentic north Indian delicacies which you won’t get anywhere else in the country.
