  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1tsp channa dal
  • 4 dried whole red chili broken
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 4 medium tomato finely chopped
  • Salt according to taste
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds/rai
  • 2-3 green chilly
  • few curry leaves
  1. First of all, chop tomato onions and green chilies and keep aside.
  2. Take a pan and add 2 tsp of oil and add whole red chilies. Fry for some time. Add onion and cook till pink or light brown in colour.
  3. After onions are done, add chopped tomatoes and saute till tomatoes turn soft.
  4. Add salt and cover it for some time to cook it properly.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare tempering. Take a pan and add oil. Add urad dal and channa dal. Fry it properly till light brown in colour.
  6. Now add rai or mustard seeds and let it splutter. Lastly, add kadi patta and green chillies and cook lightly.
  7. Now let the tomato mixture and tempering cool before chopping or grinding it.
  8. Once cold, add the mixture and tempering to the chopper and chop it in the Preethi turbo chopper.
  9. Serve tomato onion chutney with dosa, idli or any other snacks.
You can also prepare a tempering with mustard seeds and kadi patta and add over the chutney when done.
You can skip onions and make it only with tomatoes.
Another way to make it is to add little fresh and chopped coconut to give it a different taste.
