It’s true that healthy habits reduce the risk of certain diseases and improves physical and mental health. But to give your immunity a much-needed boost, you need something more than just healthy habits. Some of the healthy habits and hygiene practices which are good to prevent kids from common illnesses like common cold etc and keep them healthy are –

  • Washing hands properly.
  • Brushing the teeth twice a day.
  • Get a good night’s sleep.
  • Avoid junk food and eat healthily.
  • Regular exercise and staying active.

As a parent, it’s important to teach your kids the value of healthy habits and good hygiene but these are not enough to safeguard them against deadly diseases. Washing hands regularly, getting good night’s sleep, eating healthy, and avoiding junk food, etc. are surely great ways to stay healthy and fit but the question is – Are these enough?

To stay away from deadly diseases, your kids need more. There are things that work and there are things which don’t. I am sharing two things that I follow as a mom to safeguard kids against deadly diseases.

Vaccines – Timely vaccinations help to prevent the kids from infections through viruses and bacteria that cause deadly diseases. They are far effective and safer than just medicines. (1) I keep a check on the vaccination chart for both my daughters and make sure they get timely shots to stay safe and healthy.

Do you think your kids are truly protected from infectious diseases ranging from the common cold to more deadly diseases? Are you up-to-date on all the new vaccines which can protect your kids? If your answer is no, its high time you check with your doctor now to know about all the vaccinations which are due for your child and which can safeguard them against diseases. Most of the diseases that vaccines prevent can be very serious and deadly especially for infants and young children. Vaccines can help to provide immunity to you by working with their natural immune system. (2)

Health screening – Make sure you take your kids for regular health check-ups with their paediatrician. Do not miss any appointments as kids also need good health screening especially these days when lifestyle diseases are on the rise. Kids are not active physically and they enjoy eating junk food more than homecooked meals. That’s one of the reasons for low immunity and more susceptibility to infections and diseases.

Make a list of all the concerns you have before visiting your child’s doctor. This can help you to not miss out on anything while discussing it with him.

Being healthy is the best way to stay happy and enjoy life. Healthy habits surely help to stay healthy but keep your child’s immunisations up to date and do not miss out on any health check-up dates with your doctor. The health of your child is the most important thing in the world. You protect them by providing a safe home, good nutritious food, and, happy life but if you miss the vaccinations, you are exposing them to deadly diseases. So, keep them safe completely by following healthy practices along with healthy habits.
