Kerala is a beautiful state in South India and the greenery and enchanting landscapes are really mesmerising. This place is a mix of beaches, hills, and water bodies. It has everything from beautiful beaches at Kochi, Kumarakom, Trivandrum to amazing landscapes at beautiful hill stations Munnar and Wayanad. It is rightly called Kerala – God’s own country.

My memories of evergreen Kerala, Gods own country

Kerala God’s own country

We have covered the whole Kerala in the last few years. My first trip to Kerala was in 2011 when we went to beautiful and green Wayanad. I still remember that experience and it was truly mesmerising.

In our second trip to Kerala a few years back, we covered backwaters in Allepy and Kumarakom and spent some time discovering Kochi and its beautiful beaches. The sunset at Kumarakom was one of the most beautiful sunsets I ever saw. The beauty of backwaters left all of us completely mesmerised. To experience the backwaters, we hired a personal houseboat for the whole day and it was an amazing experience. The houseboat is the best way to experience the beauty of backwaters. Greenery all around, sailing through peaceful backwaters and nature at its best – that’s the whole experience in nutshell.

Last year we explored a completely different part of Kerala and something which is equally beautiful. Munnar is a small hill station which is famous for its beautiful landscapes, tea and coffee plantations. I have hardly seen a beautiful place like Munnar before. Also, we really enjoyed the shows of traditional martial arts and dance at a place called Punarjani village in Munnar. Kids enjoyed a tour to a spice garden and tea gardens.

The only place which is left for us to see is Kovalam beach in Trivandrum which is another popular tourist spot and a busy place as many tourists visit it every year. Hope to see it sometime soon.

About Kerala God’s own country –

Kerala is famous for its natural beauty and it is one of the most famous tourist destinations in India. Backwaters are something which is the most beautiful thing here and you must not miss it while visiting Kerala. It is famous for its natural spices and condiments. You must visit a spice garden when you are there. My kids loved their visit to the spice garden and tea gardens in Munnar.

Two more things which are a must see are the famous Kathakali dance performance and famous martial art form called Kalarippayattu.

Kerala is also called home to Ayurveda as you can try different ayurvedic therapies to rejuvenate and relax.

The main cities to see in Kerala are –

  1. Allepy – for its backwaters
  2. Munnar – for its tea gardens, hills, and natural beauty
  3. Kochi for its beaches
  4. Thekkady
  5. Kovalam for its beautiful beaches
  6. Waynad – beautiful hill station
