We plan a complete house cleaning every few months. My husband and I divide the chores when it comes to thorough cleaning. Although I am not a big fan of cleaning I do love decluttering as it helps to give our house a refreshed look. While this is a twice a month thing, there is cleaning in the kitchen which is never-ending especially when you are a food blogger. I use my oven and microwave a lot for different recipes. That’s why I am always looking for good tricks to remove stains from microwave.
As a food blogger, I have to shoot a lot of videos and click pictures in the kitchen. As a result of that, my kitchen and kitchen appliances get dirty, and sometimes these are tough to clean stains too. To be honest, my least favourite part of being a food blogger is cleaning. If you ask other food bloggers, most of them would say the worst part is the pile of dishes. But for me, it’s the stains in the microwave and oven. I have been planning to start a series about a day in the life of a food blogger but for now, let’s start with the grimy part of being a food blogger.
Video shooting is not easy and a lot of hard work goes at the backend. It means getting the script ready, using the right equipment to shoot, editing the video after the shoot, and of course cleaning after the shoot. As I regularly shoot food videos in my kitchen, my kitchen is a total mess after I finish with a video of the day. More than the kitchen, my microwave is sometimes full of greasy stains. The reason is either spilling of food inside the microwave, bursting of food items (I am sure you all have experienced it at least once while cooking), or oil spills. It is more on the days when I am trying out a new recipe.
A messy kitchen stresses me out and that’s why I was looking for an easy, effective, and quick way to not only clean my kitchen but also remove stains from the microwave. These tricks can be helpful in both – tabletop and built-in microwaves.
3 Easy tips and tricks to remove stains from microwave
With some research and trials, I found some good cleaning tools and products that have helped me in my food blogging journey. I use the microwave a lot as heating and even cooking (something quick) becomes much easier. But food explosions while using a microwave are an issue. So, I am sharing 3 easy tips and tricks to remove stains from microwave.
Lemon and water trick – Take water in a microwave-safe bowl and add a few slices of lemon to it. Now heat it up inside the microwave for 3-5 minutes. Let it stay in the microwave for another 5 minutes. By doing this, the steam inside helps to soften the tough stains and you can clean them later. Remove the bowl after 5 minutes and just take a dry cloth and wipe the microwave clean. This trick actually works well for light stains but is not effective for tough stains.
Baking soda and water trick – Baking soda actually helps to clean your microwave. Take 2 cups of baking soda and 1 cup of water. Mix them both to make a paste. Now apply this paste to remove stains from microwave. Leave it for at least 5 minutes and wipe it clean with a wet cloth. Later on, you can clean it dry by using some dry paper towels.
Along with baking soda, you can also use vinegar for hard-to-remove stains. For this, keep a bowl full of vinegar and water in equal amounts and run it for 3-4 minutes in the microwave after applying baking soda to the stains. Let it stay like this for at least 10 minutes. Later on, just remove the bowl, glass plate, and carousel and wipe the baking soda clean with a wet cloth or sponge. You can also add dish soap to water if you don’t have vinegar at home. It works well for stains too and works on the same principle of steam and evaporation as the above method.
Cif Perfect Finish Oven & Grill Cleaner – More I use the microwave, the more cleaning it requires. After a whole day of a shoot, I don’t have time and energy to make pastes, leave them in and then clean them. I realized there has to be a faster and simpler way of cleaning my microwave.
So, I am sharing one product that is like a life savior for me when it comes to removing tough stains from microwaves. I love Cif perfect finish oven & grill cleaner. The best part about this product is that it works 100% on tough grease stains and gives my microwave a sparkly and shiny look. It is easy to use and anybody can clean using this product. My daughters sometimes help in my shoots and she loves using it too as it is easy to remove stains from the microwave using this product.
It is scientifically formulated to clean grease & oil from different kitchen appliances like ovens & grills. I have used it on other surfaces too and it leaves a sparkling shine on surfaces and works like magic. For example, on gas chimney filters and oven plates and racks. Isn’t it wonderful?
Cif perfect finish oven & grill cleaner is easy to use. Just spray on the surface and leave for a few seconds. Later on, clean and rinse. That’s it! I am so happy I found this product as now I don’t have to stress out about cleaning. So, I just spray it inside my microwave and don’t have to scrub hard to get the tough stains off. I leave it for some time and then clean it with a wet cloth. It comes out sparkly clean every time!
I can just focus on my video shoots and editing while Cif perfect finish oven & grill cleaner takes care of the cleaning. Finally, I don’t have to rely on anyone for my cleaning after video shoots. Having a good cleaning product is a plus along with the other tricks. That’s why I keep it handy while shooting my food videos. Due to all the spills and stains, I was planning to change my microwave but thanks to this wonderful product that helps to remove stains from microwave that it shines and looks like new.
Final thoughts
Before using any of these methods to remove stains from microwave, make sure you remove the power cord. Also, inspect the cord and clean it thoroughly to remove any dirt/grime accumulation. The next step is to inspect the microwave to notice the areas that need more cleaning.
Once you are done with the interior cleaning of the microwave, it’s important to clean the exteriors too, and then plug it in to use.
If you do not use the microwave frequently, you can clean it once a month. It helps to not only keep it clean but also smell good. Also, one thing you can regularly do is to at least take out the glass plate once in a while; wash it properly, and keep it back after drying.
Cleaning your microwave is a tiring and tedious job that no one wants to do especially after cooking. But it’s important to do to maintain it, keeping it in good condition and also to make sure your food tastes good. I hope you found this helpful and also found a good product for your own cleaning and to remove stains from microwave.
