Books are a wonderful way which helps your child develop in multiple ways. Sharing stories, talking on a daily basis helps your child’s growth in multiple ways. Reading books with your toddler is a wonderful way to bond with them, but also create an environment where they develop a love of books.

What kind of books should you choose?

  1. Books about their favourite topic – like stars, pets, cars, trains, prince and princess etc.
  2. Flip-flap, Cloth or board books
  3. Books about animals and their noises
  4. Books that encourage good manners, behaviours in story forms
  5. Books about a habit-forming like potty training, fussy eating
  6. Choose fun books for your toddlers as this is a stage when the attention span is short.

How to start reading to your toddler?

  1. It’s important that you follow a routine every day. Like reading to your child before they go to sleep or in the morning before they go to school
  2. Turn off any electronic device around you – so that both you and your child do not have any distractions around you
  3. Hold your child close in a way, that he faces the book and sees what’s in the book
  4. Never force the child to read. Make it fun and relaxed so that your child looks forward to it.
  5. Involve your child in reading – by prompting them about what they see, talk about pictures. Repeat familiar pictures and words

Book Recommendations – A list of fun books for toddlers

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This is one of my favourite children’s book. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the most descriptive and educational books for kids between the age group of 2 to 5 years. The book is essentially the story of a caterpillar dividing the pains and toils of its life. The language of the book is very simple to understand. I remember reading it to my daughters when they were small.
