Coorg is a district and a small hill station in the state of Karnataka. It is on the slopes of western ghats and is also called ” Kodagu”. It is a beautiful place with coffee and many different spice plantations. Coorg is the largest producer of coffee in Karnataka. It is a hilly area with greenery all around.
We went in the month of June last year from Bangalore and stayed in a homestay called,” Honeypot homes”. It is a beautiful homestay in midst of coffee and spice plantations. There are beautiful cottages which give you a jungle feel.
There are beautiful coffee plantations and spice plantations such as Cardamom, Vanilla, Pepper etc. and they take you for a tour to the full plantation and my kids loved the tour. You can get full information here – www.honeypothomes.com.
There are many interesting places to see around Coorg and here are few which we saw-
- Dubare reserve forest and elephant camp– It is an elephant training camp in which you get a chance to play, ride, feed and bathe elephants. Kids will enjoy at this place as they get to play in the water, enjoy boat ride and elephants.
2.Talacauvery– It is a place where Kaveri river originated and it is surrounded by temples. It gets really foggy at times and it’s best to go in the morning to experience the beauty. It is the birthplace of river Kaveri and it is located in Brahmagiri hills. There are two temples – Shiva temple and a lord Ganesha temple.
3.Raja seat- It is a sunset point as it gives a very good view of the same. One should go around 5 pm to see the sunset. It gives a good view of the mountain ranges too. You can see a beautiful sunset from here. We didn’t see the sunset as we got little late.
4.Golden temple– It is a beautiful Buddhist monastery and has beautiful and colourful architecture. It is a peaceful place where you can sit back and relax.
5. Omkareshwara temple- It is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and it has a different architecture. There is a pool in front of the temple with lots of fishes.
There are many other interesting places to see around Coorg too like beautiful waterfalls like Iruppu falls, Abbey falls, Nagarhole national park etc. We went to Nagarhole national park also on the same trip and my first photo blog is coming up soon on that. Keep following 🙂
