“We spend our whole childhood, wanting to grow up faster but we spend our whole adult life, wanting to go back to the simplicity of being a kid again.”
As kids, we always want to grow up. We always want freedom from studies, freedom from going to school and sit at home and relax. My kids told me the other day,” Mom you are so lucky that you don’t have to go to school!” and it was like my own words coming back to me. I remember telling the same thing to my mom as a child. And my mom always used to tell me,” Wait till you grow up, as you will not understand it now.”
Now as a mother, I know what she was trying to say. I appreciate her more and understand everything better.
I wish to relive my childhood again. I wish to go back to those old carefree days when everything was so simple.
There was no internet, no gadgets, and no video games to keep us inside the house. It was only creative playing in open spaces for us. There are a lot of memories from my childhood which I wish to relive like climbing trees, walking on the grass, watching stars while sleeping on an open terrace with my cousins at my grandparents’ house, dancing in the rain and making paper boats, watching my mom make pickles, sweets and sweaters for us, playing with friends unguarded till late and riding our bicycles around the town.
I am feeling more nostalgic while writing all the things here. These are all bittersweet memories of my childhood which I keep remembering and feel good.
As they say,” We didn’t realise we were making memories, we knew that we were just having fun!”
I wish our kids go out a little more and explore the world outside, experience the fun of playing with sand, with water, or simply just go out and enjoy nature. So that, when they grow up they can also think of all the things they used to do instead of just watching TV or playing games on gadgets.
