“Real life heroes are the ones you should follow and not the fantasy ones!”

Life is strange. Sometimes you think you are the luckiest person on the face of the earth and sometimes you feel the least. Life throws different challenges at you and even when a small thing goes wrong, you panic, fret and feel devastated. On the other hand, there are people who do not even get proper food to eat every day or sleep on roads. So, instead of being thankful you crib about even when a small thing goes wrong in your life.

My parents believed that one should always be thankful as gratitude multiplies the good things in life. My dad believed in giving back to society in whatever way you can. He always helped needy and poor. So, I always wanted to do something for underprivileged kids but was never really able to do something important. Mainly because I was clueless about how to get involved with an NGO or any such organisation which helps underprivileged and needy. So, this thought of helping others took a back seat until I met someone who made me realise that real life heroes really exist.

Recently, I came to know about this real life hero who deserves the real recognition. Parveen Prem Shukla is the co-founder of Being social – Ek Nayi shuruat. It is an NGO with this motto – ‘Spread Smile and Serve Humanity.’

Their only motto and goal are to work for the betterment of the society.

Their mission is to Inspire and mobilize every Indian. They believe that by just giving few hours on weekend, one can work for a better India in terms of health and safety, environment, education for underprivileged children.  Every weekend the volunteers take up different responsibilities like clothes distribution and medical check-up for old age and under-developed part of society.

Being Social -एक नई शुरुआत started in November 2015 in Delhi by Praveen and Gaurav. Since then these real life heroes are doing social service in seven different cities of India and mainly on weekends or any National holidays. They have their volunteers spread across different cities (Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ludhiana/Chandigarh, and Mumbai & Pune) and now they have 2500+ volunteers from different educational background and profession.

Different initiatives run by them are –

  1. Carefree lado is an initiative for adolescent girls and women of slums where they get an education about menstrual health.
  2. Kala pathshala is a school inaugurated by the NGO to give education to slum kids. They have more than 150 kids who study there.
  3. Water for birds’ initiative was recently very successful. In this initiative, they urge all to keep water for birds in various open places in pots throughout the summer.
  4. Recently they launched an initiative called – Pehchaan – the unsung heroes of India. It is my favourite as it is something which is going to help underprivileged kids to get an identity. It is a talent hunt for children which is surely going to bring out some hidden talents in those kids. I hope to be a part of it to teach kids and help them to come forward to perform.

Apart from all this, there are many other initiatives like a visit to old age homes, transformation of schools and cleanliness drives etc.

I have not been able to do much with them but would love to be a part of their core team someday. If you show interest in being a part of the team, Praveen adds you to the group and shares all the initiatives. You can choose to volunteer according to your convenience. Praveen’s energy and enthusiasm are contagious and appreciating. Only if more youth of our country come forward to help the society, we can sure be the best country in the world.

Praveen, Gaurav, and all the volunteers are the real life heroes who work silently and definitely deserve a salute. Hope this real life story inspired you to do something good, brave and noble. To see all their work, join their Facebook page.
