Travelling makes you a storyteller and an explorer. In my previous post, I shared about our stay in Singapore. In this post, I am sharing transport, how to travel and places to visit. It has a lot of fun places to see which are Singapore must visit places for kids. In fact, there are so many that you get confused about which ones to see and which ones to leave. All of them are worth visiting and kids surely enjoy there.
How to travel-
Getting around in Singapore is a breeze as the local transport system is really good. I was impressed by how fast and efficient it is and how well connected to all the places. The different travelling options which are available are – cabs, MRT (mass rapid transit), and bus services.
MRT or train service is really efficient and connects to all the tourist spots in the city. Most of the tourist attractions are just walking distance from an MRT station and you can easily catch one near the hotel.
Cabs are also easily available everywhere. The first thing we did was to install the app of local taxi service called GRAB. We also used Uber for our travels around the city. It is very easy to book it through the app and efficient too. It is metered and little expensive for longer distance travels but if you have small kids, a cab is much more convenient.
Bus service – Singapore’s bus service is the easiest and economical way to travel around the city. Our kids enjoyed the bus rides as you get to see the whole city while going around on the bus. You must try bus travel for a scenic drive and see Singapore must visit places.
Travelling mom tip – Get an MRT travellers card as soon as you reach there. You can use it for both, train travel and the bus travel. We bought a 20$ card which is valid for 3 days for unlimited travel. You can buy it at any main station ticket counters.
Must visit places with family –
Gardens by the bay – The first place we saw on our trip was beautiful garden by the bay. Here you can explore plant life from around the world. The key attractions are – Flower dome, cloud forest, OCBC Skyway and supertree grove, heritage gardens, dragonfly lake, sun pavilion. The cloud forest is very beautiful and my kids enjoyed walking inside the dome. The supertree grove has 11 super trees and you must not leave without visiting these iconic trees. Flower dome has interesting plants from all over the world and it has a children’s garden and water play zone too.
The best part of this place is the spectacular light and sound show at 7.45 pm and 8.45 pm as night falls and the supertrees come to life. This show is a must watch and highly recommended.
They also have shuttle service if you have small kids.
Universal studios – Next day we covered the fun universal studios which were one of the main attraction for kids. It is located on the famous Sentosa Island. You can experience exhilarating rides, shows, and attractions. The best part is that all these are based on your favourite movies or TV shows. The kids enjoy the rides and shows as they can relate to the characters. Slide to see our fun pictures.
Mom tip – If you are going when its offseason, do not buy an express pass but if you are going with small kids and its peak season in Singapore, its recommended to get an express pass as it not only saves a lot of time but it’s easier when you have small kids who get impatient standing in long lines.
- Four wildlife adventures – It includes Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari, river safari and Singapore zoo. We covered bird park and night safari next day. We skipped zoo as our kids are little older who were not much interested but it’s highly recommended for small kids. My daughters loved our tour to Jurong Bird Park where you get to see breath-taking free-flight exhibits, thrilling bird shows and you can even feed them up close.
Night safari starts at 7 pm with tours at different timings till 10.30 at night. It covers 7 geographical regions and you can choose to walk along 4 walking trails or choose to go in a tram. It’s better to take a tram ride with small kids.
- Singapore Flyer and Marina bay sands– These two are perfect for a spectacular view of Singapore from the top. Singapore Flyer is a 165-meter high flyer or giant Ferris wheel which can help you get a complete view of Singapore. It takes 30 minutes to cover a full round and you can experience an outstanding view of the full city.
Marina bay sands are the most spectacular hotel, popular infinity pool and an amazing view from the top. We went around 8 pm as we wanted to experience the night view of the city. The whole experience was out of the world.
Mom tip – Garden by the bay, marina bay and Singapore Flyer are very near to each other, so you can plan it accordingly.
Merlion Park- The major landmark and the most popular tourist attraction in Singapore. The half fish and half lion statue are located at the waterfront at this park and you also get a spectacular view of Marina Bay from here. The visit in evening is recommended as it’s hot and humid in the afternoon. It looks beautiful with the lights in the evening.
Sea aquarium – It is a beautiful aquarium located on Sentosa Island which is home to more than 100,000 marine animals and 1,000 species. You and your kids can discover fascinating marine worlds and they will surely be mesmerised by this wonderful experience. Must visit habitats are discovery touch pool, ocean gallery, Shark Sea, and ocean dome.
Other attractions – There are many other places where you can go with kids like river cruise, duck tour, science center, kidzania, etc. At Sentosa Island, there are many other things to see, the beach and Madam Tussauds museum are the main two.
Mom tips – You can’t visit all the places with small kids. So, it’s better to plan beforehand according to your kids’ age and interest. Also, in Singapore, you have to walk a lot not only to reach a place but inside too. So, it’s better to wear comfortable shoes.
Other than this, there are many open bus tours which take you to all these places with stops in between. Also, there is an interesting river cruise in which you can cruise down Singapore River to Marina bay which covers all the historical places on the way.
We came back with a lot of good memories to cherish. Our kids enjoyed the trip. Hope you and your family love it too.
