You can be a teacher, a firefighter, a doctor, a businesswoman or even an army officer. But nothing can beat being a mom as it is the most gratifying as well as the hardest job. But on the other hand, it’s the most undervalued and underrated job too.
Do you have a resume to show all the efforts which go into it? Nobody can add motherhood to a resume or no mom receives a promotion or appreciation letter for everything she does. People feel stay-at-home moms are dependents as they are not earning any money. They are never appreciated enough. As a result of that many moms who left their jobs or are not working feel non-worthy.
The miss India World 2017, Manushi Chhillar gave a very touching answer in the final round of her pageant which touched many hearts. According to her motherhood deserves the highest salary as it’s in the form of pure love.
I completely agree with her and also loved her answer. There are many people who didn’t agree and tried to raise a question by saying that motherhood is not a profession. I also feel that we cannot call it a profession as it is above everything else we do but it surely deserves the highest salary. The word “mother” includes everything in it and it is not one word but made of many different words. You can take a leave from your job or take a break from your business but there are no holidays in motherhood.
Moms also grow as the child grows and experience everything with them. It’s like going through your childhood again. Every mom is a teacher, a doctor, a cook, a cleaner, a driver, a guide, a mentor, a hair stylist, and also a friend. I am sure there are many more professions which are part of this list. It’s like doing a thesis or dissertation but never getting any degree or award for it.
It starts with childbirth and goes on forever and moms have to pass many tests along the way. Initial months are surely tough, understanding breastfeeding, nap times, feeding solids (how much and when to give), making sure of all the milestones, choosing the best school, etc. – it’s a never-ending list. It’s more physical when a child is small but later when they grow up, it’s more psychological.
Motherhood is a big responsibility too as a mom is not only a CEO of her job but she is everything else too. At times she is a front office person and at times a manager. Once the kids are big, the added responsibility is to watch your own behavior as kids are always watching you. Making them healthy and happy individuals, instilling confidence in them, keeping them grounded and good social beings are some of the points which every mom has on her list. The results of all the hard work are only seen after many years of motherhood.
Someday the kids will be teachers, doctors, professors, designers, artists, engineers etc. and a mother is the happiest when she sees her kids settled and successful. Do you think she retires now? You are highly mistaken if you think so as it never ends. A mother never stops worrying about her kids even when they are big.
So, Motherhood is not a profession but something which is above all other professions with a salary in the form of pure love. I agree with you Manushi! Proud of you and hats off to you for giving motherhood the recognition it needs.
These were my thoughts about it and now it’s over to you. Let me know what do you think of this.

Motherhood cannot be bracketed into any profile. I loved Manushi’s answer too. Remembering our mothers on crucial junctures of our life proves how integral a part of our life they are!

Miss India World’s answer really did bring this topic into the spotlight and when you think of it, it affects a huge part of the Indian population itself, doesn’t it?
Would have loved to have seen a sensible debate on this topic on social media too.

What a great topic, and relevant too. motherhood is an emotional journey that can not be describe in the words. It is a life altering experience that is so magical, but saying it a job or a profession, an absolutely no for me. excited to know, others point of view and thanks deepa for bringing this heart touching discussion.

Parenthood itself is a difficult activity. It is one of the best roles that one has to play in his/her lifetime.

I agree with Manushi’s answer to the question as to a mother should be highest paid. She works hard and toils hard all her life to give her children the best and performs all tasks of various professionals. She deserves to be acknowledged.

Lol!!! i most of the times feel its a profession, because my routine is so tight with all the things planned to do and everything so packed up i hardly get time to spend with my little one, i feel if we had more than 24 hours i would finish all my chores and spend all the time with him when he is awake!!!

This is the most important unpaid and unappreciated job ever on this planet. Respect to all those moms who bring new life forms on this earth. No wonder Moms are compared to God. 🙂

Motherhood is the toughest of all the jobs. It is so dynamic too. At every stage I feel I have to change my parenting style.

Beautifully written article and for motherhood is the best for any woman. It take alot of sacrifice, pain, love and at the end of all, mother does only for the child. This article does touch upon on multiple facets, thanks for sharing ?

Motherhood begins after the child is born and ends with the mother. She is the most giving person I feel. Tough job indeed, but rewarding too.
