With the occasion of Republic Day dawning near us, you must be thinking how can you make this day special for your children! Well, one definite interesting way is to cook wonderful, yummy recipes for them. These recipes are simple and will also bring out the patriotic sides in your children.

Republic Day Recipes-

1) Tri colour Salad –

Get creative and give your children full nutrition with this yummy, wonderful tricolour salad. For this you need –

1 large carrot

1 small broccoli

8 baby corn or mushrooms

You can even add some boiled pasta.

For Seasoning

  • black pepper as required
  • salt as required
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon butter

For making this salad – first, wash all the vegetables. Boil the baby corn for 5 minutes and blanch the broccoli till its soft. Once done, remove both the vegetables and make it dry.

Take a pan, add butter and sauté’ the vegetables one by one. seasoned with salt and pepper. Once all is done, toss the vegetables together and arrange the veggies on a plate in tri colour. This is best served warm.

2)  Tri Colour bread pakora –

This hearty snack is sure to make your children drool and enjoy it.

For this recipe you need –

  • Slices of bread
  • 3 tablespoon tandoori mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoon green mint mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoon gram flour (Besan)
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered turmeric
  • 50 ml water
  • Chilli powder / green chilly as required.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 100 ml vegetable oil

Method –

On a bread slice spread tandoori mayonnaise and keep another bread slice on it. Spread mint mayonnaise on top of the second layer of bread slice and club with another bread slice. Keep it aside.

For bread pakora batter, take a bowl and add the remaining mayonnaise, caraway seeds (ajwain), gram flour, chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and water. Form a thick batter until everything mixes well. Remember – the batter should NOT be runny, else it will not stick to the bread pieces.

Now, apply the batter on the already prepared above sandwich pieces from all sides.

Heat oil in a kadhai and deep fry the bread pakora until it is cooked well and crispy from all the sides. Cut sandwich into 2 pieces and serve hot. Note: You can also add a slice of cheese or paneer in-between the bread slices.

3) Tri Colour Idlis

White batter – Use idli batter as required.

Orange batter – 2 medium carrots Chopped, 1 green chilli – For this recipe – divide your idli batter into 3 equal parts. For orange batter – cook the carrots and cook them with salt and chilly so that raw taste goes away. Cool it and grind it to a smooth paste. Mix it with one portion of the batter to make the orange coloured idlis.

Green batter – 1 cup coriander or mint leaves, 1  green chilly – Chop the coriander or mint leaves roughly. Cook them with the green chillies for a couple of minutes to get rid of the raw flavour. Cool and grind to a smooth paste. Mix with the third portion of the batter to make the green coloured idlis.

4) Tri Colour Dosas

With the same batter that is given above – make tri colour dosas.

Heat a dosa tawa. Add a few drops of oil and wipe it with a paper towel to make the service non-sticky. Now Pour 1/4 of a scoop of the orange batter and spread it into a semi-circle. Next, add 1/4 of a scoop of the white batter and spread it to make the middle portion of the dosa. Finally, pour the green batter and make the lower semi-circle.

5) Tri colour chutney

You can make accompaniments like orange colour chutney using tomato, green colour chutney by using coriander and mint, and white as coconut chutney. You can serve it with different chaats using healthy ingredients like beetroot, boiled potatoes and other vegetables.
