Phuket city is situated on Phuket island in Thailand and is popular for many beautiful beaches. It is surrounded by many beautiful islands with mountains too. It is one of the oldest cities in Thailand. Most people here follow Buddhism and there are many beautiful temples to see. Phang naga bay and Krabi are other islands close to Phuket which are worth visiting. I am sharing about Phuket and fun Thailand trip with kids.
It is Thailand’s largest island in the Andaman sea. The climate is warm throughout the year and tropical. It is rainy and warm in monsoons.
Memories of Phuket, a fun Thailand trip with kids-
We recently visited this beautiful city and island and its one of our best family beach holiday till now. We went to this beautiful city in the second week of April and covered the Phuket city and few nearby islands like Ko Phi Phi, James bond island and Krabi.
Day 1 –
Our journey started from Bangalore to Phuket on 7th night and reached there on 8th morning. The flight from Bangalore to Phuket is almost 4 hours. We checked in our beautiful resort called Centara Kata which is near the famous Kata beach of Phuket. The Kata beach is famous for its sunset, so the first day we went there and also experienced the beautiful sunset. At night we went to Kata night market which has food joints to experience yummy Thai food and places to shop souvenirs and clothes.
Day 2 –
We already planned for Phi Phi islands and booked a cruise to visit this beautiful island. There are two ways to go there, either a cruise or speed boat. We opted for a cruise and reached the port around 9 am. The cruise starts around 10 and it takes 1.5 -2 hrs to reach the main island. The best part was the journey as you cross many beautiful islands on the way. We saw the famous Maya beach but it was closed down for the last 7 months. It is featured in the movie ‘The Beach’ by Leonardo DiCaprio and it is stunning.
The Phi Phi island is equally beautiful with clear sparkling blue water and clean beach with white sand. The beach is truly mesmerising with many long tail boats which you can hire to go around the beach or to the city. It is actually a group of islands and a part of Krabi province and we enjoyed snorkelling on the beach.
Day 3 –
We took a city tour to explore the famous attractions around Phuket. The best one was the Karon viewpoint from where you can see a stunning view of 3 different beaches – Kata, Karon and Kata Noi. We also loved the beautiful Big Buddha and the famous temple called Wat Chalong. Other than these two, you can see the famous pearl shop, dolphin show, tiger show, and cashew nut factory, etc.
Day 4 –
The best part of the trip – James bond island and canoeing. We loved this cruise experience as it has many different things to do. The cruise started around 10.30 and it’s a 45 minutes cruise. We went to a Panak island for canoeing into ice cream cave which was a very different and exciting experience for us. The canoeing and the needle rock is the highlight of this cruise trip to James bond island or Phang naga bay where all these are located. The canoeing is with a professional paddler so you don’t have to worry even if you are with small kids.
About Phuket –
Phuket is famous for its crystal clear and sparkling water of Andaman sea. It has many things to offer and you can completely enjoy your holiday with kids and family. We just had 4 days and every day was jampacked with activities but if you can plan at a 6-day trip, you can also include a stay in Krabi or Bangkok.
There are also many options for water sports like snorkelling, paragliding, parasailing, etc. which you can try.
The Thai food is a must try and as we love Thai cuisine, we enjoyed the famous and authentic Thai dishes there. You must try the famous Pineapple veg rice and tom kha soup when you are there. We also enjoyed shopping at famous night markets and Junk Ceylon mall in Patong area.
The dazzling island is so beautiful that you don’t feel like leaving it. Kids enjoyed the beach holiday and island hopping as much as we did and we will surely be back soon to explore it little more. This was about Phuket and our fun Thailand trip with kids. Have you been to Thailand yet?

What a wonderful recap! I wish I could take my children to places like this all over the world. I feel as if I won’t be able to ever, but I’m hopeful that life will show them what I cannot.

Loved this post, Deepa. It was as much about the beauty of Phuket as it was about enjoying time with family and getting the best of both! I would love to see the James Bond island too. Any idea why it is called that? 😀
