Yercaud is a hill station which is in Salem district in Tamil Nadu. It is called the poor man’s Ooty and it has beautiful landscapes and rich coffee plantations. It is a small town which is nestled in the Eastern Ghats in Shevaroy hills. This place is good for a weekend getaway from nearby places to get a good break from the hustle bustle of a city.
It is famous for its beautiful weather and scenic locations. The best time to visit is from October to February.
My memories of Yercaud a hill station –
We went to Yercaud from Bangalore in December 2017 during Christmas break. This trip was our first outstation trip in our new car which we bought in 2017 September. So, we planned it as a weekend getaway and a long family trip to enjoy our new car.
Yercaud is just an hour’s drive from Salem as it is almost 80 km from there. So, we booked a hotel in Salem and went to Yercaud for a day to explore the beautiful hill station. The drive from Salem to Yercaud is almost 22km uphill and has 20 hairpin bends which are sharp. There are not too many places to see and it’s a small city. So, we just explored the city and had our lunch there and started back for Salem in the evening. We left around 4 pm to avoid driving in the evening on the road with sharp hairpin bends.
Our Salem stay was also memorable as we celebrated Christmas in the hotel. We stayed in Radisson, Salem and it was a nice experience.
About Yercaud –
Yercaud is a perfect place to unwind and spend some quality time with your friends and family. The main places to see in Yercaud are –
Killyur Falls – It is 100 to 150 m walk down the road and mostly has water only during monsoon season.
Yercaud lake – It is the central attraction here. You can enjoy different types of boating here like paddle boating, motor boating, and rowboats.
Rosegarden and Lady’s seat – Good to just spend some time and explore the food options as it has some good restaurants around.
Anna park – It is just next to the lake with flower shows at some particular time of the year.
Pakoda point – It is a viewpoint from where you can see the whole city of Salem.
We didn’t stay in Yercaud during our visit but saw many beautiful resorts when we were there. Hope to stay and explore it little more next time. Have you heard of this hill station before?
I am sharing my memories of different places from my travel list this April.
