Chandigarh is a city in North India and is a capital city of two states, Punjab and Haryana. It is rightly called the city beautiful- Chandigarh as its beauty and charm is not like any other city in India. It is a well-planned city and was designed by a Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier.
The name Chandigarh comes from the ‘Chandi Mandir’ and it’s a union territory which was a dream city of late prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. It is one of the best city to live in India and has three bordering states, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
My memories of the city beautiful Chandigarh –
Chandigarh is one of my favourite city and also closed to my heart for many reasons. I have been visiting Chandigarh since childhood as many of my relatives stayed there. Later on, I did my graduation from there and enjoyed three years of my hostel life in the city beautiful. I have a lot of beautiful memories of the city with my friends. The new experience of college and hostel life, exploring famous parts of the city with friends and feeling homesick at times are all a part of beautiful memories.

Good old hostel days
My college was in the main area of the city which has many other colleges nearby. The good part was that my local guardians stayed quite nearby and whenever I felt homesick, I would visit them.
I still remember all our trips to nearby hill stations like Kasauli, Morni hills and its famous cable car with my parents. Anyone who is familiar with Chandigarh knows the importance of Sector 17. It is the main shopping place and a cool place to hang out with family and friends and I still remember my shopping trips with my parents.
We shifted to the city beautiful Chandigarh for 2 years from 2009 to 2011 and my kids also got a chance to explore the city. Their favourite was the Chatbir zoo.

About the city beautiful – Chandigarh –
Chandigarh is not only known for its well-planned architecture but also for the cleanliness and greenery. It has many beautiful places to explore like Sukhana lake which is a popular tourist destination. Here you can enjoy boating and scenic beauty, especially during sunset.
Another very popular tourist destination is the Rock Garden. It is famous as a sculpture garden and its beauty. Its designer Nek Chand made different structures with stones, rocks, and scraps in his spare time. Later on, it became a popular heritage site. It is a must visit with kids.
Other than these, there is a beautiful rose garden, timber trail, Pinjore garden and Chatbir zoo which is a common weekend getaway for people from nearby places.

I still have to come across a city as beautiful as Chandigarh. Although it has changed a lot in recent years with a lot more traffic and population, it will always be special for me. Whenever I visit it, I get nostalgic.
Have you ever been to Chandigarh? Do let me know your memories and experience in the comments below. I will be back with my memories of another city tomorrow.
I am sharing my memories of different places from my travel list this April.

Chandigarh is very special to me too. I have also visited it many times since I was a child and some lovely memories of the place. In fact I was planning to write about a memory from nearby Zirakpur for the letter Z, but changed my mind!

Just back from this city a few days back, I feel nostalgic. I find it one of the best maintained cities in India. A walk at Sukhna lake is so peaceful. I am glad I could personally meet Nek Chandji when I was young as he is a family friend, such a great personality.
