Ujjain is a Hindu pilgrimage city is famous for many temples and as a historic city. It is a district in Madhya Pradesh and many devotees visit it to offer their prayers all year around. It is famous as a pilgrimage city as it has one of the 12 Jyotirlingas which are supposed to be the abode of Lord Shiva.
Ujjain also has other famous temples and Hindu devotees throng it in large numbers. The sculptures and temples are all worth visiting. It is also called’ Mahakal Ki Nagari ‘and river Shipra flows through it.
My memories of Ujjain- A Hindu Pilgrimage city –
I went to Ujjain long time back with my parents and siblings when we were visiting my aunt in Ratlam. My uncle and aunt were posted in Ratlam, a city in the northwest part of the Malwa region in Madhya Pradesh. We went to meet them and my cousin in the summer break and that was my first trip to MP. I still remember that my uncle came to pick us all up from railway station in a tonga (horse carriage) and it was a fun experience for all of us.
The whole city had a different vibe to it and I found the structures and houses very interesting. Ratlam to Ujjain is approximately 2 hours and we went there by train to see the famous temples.
We also enjoyed the local authentic food of that region and the best one was the jalebi and rabri. Other than that the famous delicacies which were worth trying are kachoris, dal baati and poha. I remember Dal bafla and ladoo from Mangalnath which are popular there.
It was a fun trip with family and we had a great time with cousins but sadly I don’t have a picture to post right now.

This brought back such lovely memories, Deepa. I went there when I was some 10-11 years old. We prayed at both Omkareshwar and Mahakaleshwar temples since they’re both jyotirlings. Ujjain truly is a lovely place!
