Wayanad is a city full of natural beauty in the Kerala state in South India. It has 3 main towns – Sulthan Bathery, Kalpetta, and Mananthavady. It has mountains, hills and a lot of natural beauty. Many tourists visit it from nearby areas to enjoy the scenic beauty. Wayanad wildlife sanctuary is a forest which is lush and green with rich wildlife.
The word Wayanad means house of paddy fields. It has a tropical monsoon climate and it receives a good amount of rain.
My memories of Wayanad – A city with natural beauty
We went to Wayanad in 2011 when we just moved back to Bangalore. This was our first trip after moving to Bangalore and it was fun but also adventurous. We started pretty early in the morning for Wayanad which is almost 6-7 hour drive. We entered the forest area of Wayanad in almost 6 hours from Bangalore and were already very tired and thought our resort will be nearby. But to our surprise, it kept on driving and it took us almost 3 hours just to reach our resort.
By that time, we all were very sleepy and tired but it was so beautiful that we forgot everything else. The forest area which we crossed to reach the city was an experience which I can never forget. It was wonderful yet scary. At one point you feel, you are right in the middle of a forest with nobody else around you. You get to hear nothing but nature and breathe fresh air.
We did boating at famous Pookode lake and saw the famous sunset point. Kids also enjoyed the trekking in the green lush hilly areas.
About Wayanad –
It is a popular tourist destination for people from neighbouring states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The best time to visit is from October to May. At this time you can enjoy boating, camping, and trekking otherwise its monsoon season from June to September with heavy rainfalls.
Apart from natural beauty, it has many places to see like-
Wayanad wildlife sanctuary
Edakkal Caves
Chembra peak
Neelimala view point
Kanthanpara waterfalls
Soochippara waterfalls
In Wayanad, you can try different things like boating, trekking or just enjoy nature at your resort.
It has everything which a nature lover and adventure love likes. Wayanad is the best place to visit in North Kerala.
Its been a long time since we went last to this place full of natural beauty and can’t wait to explore it again soon. We were there only for two days which just flew away. Have you been to Wayanad yet?
I am sharing my memories of different places from my travel list this April.

Wayanud I have also heard about it. At the base of Western Ghats, forest is dead. There is tiger sanctuary too I believe. On my way from Mysore to Ooty I crossed the forest that is elephant reserve and also has tiger, It was at the base of Nilgiri hills, I was told forest goes to Wayanaud. The place also assumed significance, because congress president is fighting is election from here in 2019.
